THE LANGUAGE OF SYMBOLS (1)

Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not;
and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand“. (Matthew 13:13)

Thinking about it, life is pretty much conducted by symbols in many
ways. Symbols that when we see we know exactly what we are
asked to do, although their shapes do not always illustrate their
significance. Numbers are a good example. No written shape of a
number demonstrates the amount, and still, when we see a number
we know exactly how much to think of. The written letter does not
illustrate the sound that we are supposed to make when pronouncing
it, and yet we know how to read it and combine words, which also
have nothing to do with how the noun they describe looks,
nevertheless when we read a noun we know what the object looks
like. Notes are also symbols. If we know how to read them, we know
exactly which key to push, although there are not specific instructions
for that. Road signs, if we obey them, make us go through the
required series of actions, although these actions are not detailed but
only by a sign that looks this way or another.

It is likewise with scripture. Nouns, names of people, names of
places, animals, plants, numbers, colors, letters…they all have a
meaning. Nothing is randomly written. And when we see a certain
symbol, we are supposed to draw a much deeper meaning than
merely the literal one, knowing that a symbol carries with it the same
significance all over scripture, wherever and whenever we see it.
So what does one that accepts everything that was said here so far,
and wants to interpret scripture, but does not know the meaning of
the symbols do? Very simple. He studies them. If you wanted to have
a drivers license, would you not learn how to read the road signs?
Or if you wanted to play the piano, would you not study the notes?

Coming up we bring examples of a few symbols and their brief
interpretations, that to my opinion are essential for the study of this
teaching. The interpretation of these symbols will apparently reveal
ideas and nuances that may be hard to grasp at this stage of the
book and when you read them, it is more than likely that your reaction
will be the same as the lady’s that after she finished reading one of
Freedom Barry’s book, turned to him and said: “Can you please tell
me what in hell you are talking about?” Try to overcome this, knowing
that before all, We are talking about you. It is perfectly alright not to understand
everything at this stage. I also went through the same phase. All you
need to know is that these are dry facts, a theoretical study of what
we are taught to be Conscious of by way of implementation, and
everything will become clearer as you read.

And where better to start than the very beginning?

In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” (Genesis 1:1)

The literal interpretation of this verse and the whole chapter, suggests
of the creation of the universe and planetary world, which is perfectly
ok… until it is not anymore. When does this interpretation stop to be
perfectly ok? When one starts to ask the right questions and does his
own research to find higher meanings, because the present ones are
not good enough anymore. Then he finds out that the chronology of
the bible, measured according to the characters literal ages
mentioned in the stories, sums to about 4000 years until the birth of
Christ. About 2000 years more to our days make 6000, which means
that if we are to accept the story of creation in Genesis literally, as the
creation of the universe and planet Earth, we will have also to accept
the fact that they were created 6000 years ago, when there are
archeological findings dated far before that, let alone fossils that were
dated millions of years ago. Fanatic insisters of this system will then
tell us that the world was created 6000 years ago, along with the
archeological findings and fossils, but I think this argument cannot do
much more than arouse a sympathetic smile on our faces. We are
looking for higher meanings. Not things that happened thousands or
millions of years ago, but things that happen all the time and those
things have to do directly with ME.

Heaven and Earth- How can the story of creation of heaven and
earth, have anything to do directly with me? It can, only if Heaven and
Earth are not taken as literal localities, but as symbols of the two main
elements that construct the human being. The human being is indeed
an earthly being that lives a physical life in a physical body, identifies
with states, works, walks around, eats, does this and that, but most of
all, his perception of reality and his knowledge of it is well based on the
senses. If the thing can be touched, smelled, tasted, seen, heard, then
it must be real. This perception is represented in scripture as Earth.
But on the other hand we cannot discard the fact that man is also a
spiritual being. Man is not only his body and senses. He is also all the
unseen things that go on within him. Man is his own psychology. He
thinks, he feels, he dreams, he desires, witnesses phenomenon
that cannot be explained on the physical level. These, in scripture, are
represented as Heaven. Therefore, Earth has to do with ones physical
life, and Heaven has to do with ones mental activity. Man, being sound
asleep, is aware mostly of his physical life, having to deal with
everyday circumstances and reacting to them on a daily basis. Man is
an “Earthly” being, and tends to discard “Heaven” as unimportant in
compare to the constant chasing after life. Therefore this verse comes
to teach us of the duality of man. It tells us that there is another side of
man that is of great importance, in fact so great that it influences ones
physical reality. In this verse we actually make acquaintance with the
two main elements of this teaching, namely Cause and Effect. Every
created thing, anything that can be sensually beheld, namely in Earth,
is Effect, which Cause is always in Heaven.
This is the very fundamental principle that one has to know before
approaching any profound study of the Bible and the teaching that this
book reveals, which purpose is, first of all, to increase ones awareness
to the fact that there is something bigger and more important than
visible reality, which actually determines how life will be. This thing
exists in man as much as sensual reality does, and therefore must not
be neglected as unimportant. This is the corner stone on which this
whole thing is constructed, which is probably the reason why it is also
the very first verse of the Bible.

Being aware of that, man starts a process of Self Healing, which is the
main theme of this teaching and the purpose of the whole Bible. The
word “create” in Genesis 1 is translated from the word “Barah” in
Hebrew. Now, the word Barah can indeed be translated as “create” but
it is also cut of the verb root “to heal”, improve, make better. This is
what we are being taught to do.

Water- Water represents Truth. The source of water, according to the
story of creation is in Heaven. The word HEAVEN, as it appears in
the Hebrew text is SHAMAYIM. This word is made out of two words:
SHAM (-there) Mayim (-water). Heaven is where The Truth is. It is not
a physical place, certainly not the blue that we see when we raise our
look. This is a Conscious state, and in this state are all the capacities
that you possess, in order to be saved. Therefore, the next time that
you hear that God’s Spirit floats upon the water, or about someone
that walks on water, which is exactly the same, you do not have to
mull whether to believe it or not, or stay stunned in front of something
that is impossible according to nature’s laws, but nevertheless, you
are obliged to believe if you consider your self of certain religious
groups. When you know how to interpret scripture and apply it, when
you “understand” that although you are a physical being that is born into a physical
world, there is still a great potential that is innate in us, we are supposed
to apply in order to reach the state that is called Heaven, then one
will also be walking on water, meaning, lives by The Truth. You will be
your own savior, the only savior that will ever come to rescue your
world. And just like the oil with which the Messiah is anointed (which
is the meaning of the word), oil is lighter than water, so in accord with
natures laws oil will always float, as so anyOne would be above the water, and in total
control over their life.

More than once have we heard sayings like: “The truth purifies”, or
“The truth will set you free”. It is not a coincidence that almost in all
religions there are rituals of cleansing with water, but now you
understand that these rituals are only symbols representing what has
to take place mentally. The recognition of the great potential that is
innate in you, which condition for manifesting is Water, indeed sets
you free of the chains of Spiritual ignorance and the darkness in
which you walk. It turn on the light that you need to be saved.

This symbol appears in various ways: it can appear as rain, snow,
dew, flood ect. also as river, sea, stream, and so on. They all
represent the same principle.

Wine- Unlike the Water that is The Truth that one has to know in
order to be saved, Wine is that same truth after one has put it to a
test of self experience. Drinking water does not effect our
consciousness, but wine would change the conscious state in which
we are .In ordinary language it is called to be drunk, but in spiritual
terms it would be the bliss of proof by experience. This happens
when you make the Truth your own, and no one can take it away
from you. No one can convince you in arguments against it. You are
now wiser. You have solid proof. It is now yours just as if you have
wedded it. It is when The you become one with The Truth , and
development can be seen in you. You are no longer what you used to
be before experiencing it. You “live by it”. You become it. Your Being
transforms, and you are one step higher on the ladder of Self
Development. The principle of the meaning of the symbol Wine is
beautifully illustrated in John 2, in the story of turning water into wine,
and it is not at all a coincidence that this story takes place in a
wedding to which Jesus is invited.

It will be right to say that in this book all you get is Water, and turning
it into Wine is in your hands. Again, it is not a miraculous hocus
pocus that has to be taken literally, but what describes the
importance of applying The Truth. Why in a wedding? Because this
is how you wed the Truth and make it your own. When you prove it by
experience, you vow to it individually. This is why certain religions
forbid drinking wine, and you will see people abstain from drinking
wine and other kinds of beverages, between one stumble to another.
Now the meaning of this forbidding is that you are not supposed to
learn from someone else’s experience. You are supposed to experience
them yourself. The path of Spiritual Awakening is individual,
and each walks it in his own tempo and according to his own experiences.
Otherwise it is not good enough.

Bondage- This symbol appears in the Bible many times. The most
famous and well known, of course, is the bondage of Egypt, there
are other stories too, where heavy taxes were put on those in
bondage and they were put to hard labor in favor of the ruling nation,
which name, in all cases, is a significant symbol for a negative state
preventing inner development. The book of Judges is a good
example to that. Another good example is the book of Jeremiah,
where the bondage is to the state called Babel, which meaning we
already went through. And of course, there is also the bondage to the
Roman Empire. All ruling nations of bondage regimes told in the
bible, represent Spiritual malfunctioning. It is when one is enslaved to
external systems that will prevent his inner development. External
systems prevent us from revealing and increasing the inner power by
which we can be saved on our own authority and no one else’s.

Systems are static. They do not develop. You, on the other hand do.
Therefore, although a system may seem, for the moment, to be the
best thing that ever happened to you, you are sooner or later going to
find it insufficient, and look elsewhere for answers that this system is
not providing .

I have to create my own system, or be enslaved by another’s. I
won’t reason and compare. My business is to create.
(William Blake)

When a person is enslaved to a system, obeying that systems laws
and principles (to be considered bondage as it is ), does not
contribute anything but feeding persona and increasing ones picture
in his own eyes, when the purpose is actually making persona
passive and increasing Consciousness in its expense. And so, not
only are we enslaved to the system but also to that picture in our own
eyes, namely, false personality, taught to be spiritual ignorance as it
is.

Can this teaching that is taught here be called a system? Yes it can.
Is this teaching an external system?- No. This teaching is esoteric
and deals with the most inner parts of man. This teaching has also
laws, but they are not to be known, nor are they to be obeyed. They
are to Become. When you Become a law of this teaching, you do not
in effort obey it, and you do not do it artificially, but you do it
anyway. And so, the more laws of this teaching that you become, the
lesser laws you live under. Living under lesser and lesser laws is the
very meaning of freedom of bondage. In this system you can be
taught only the basics, which we are doing right now, but after words
there is no one that can instruct us or do it for us, other than our
selves. There is nothing external that we must to do, everything takes
place within us, and it is totally an individual process. Nothing that is
taught here comes to feed persona, in fact, if you see that applying
this teaching and getting successful results swells your personality, it
means that there is something very wrong that you are doing.
Persona is the enslaving tyrant, and this teaching teaches to make it
passive in order to break free.
This is very well illustrated in the bible, where a question is asked
about paying tax to Caesar, and Jesus asking the people to show him
a coin with which they pay the tax. When they do, he asks who’s
picture is this on the coin? They say it is Caesar’s. Caesar’s picture in
this case represents one’s picture of himself in his own eyes, namely
his personal and sense based perception of Self. This is the coin with
which and to whom we are actually enslaved in total Spiritual
darkness. The picture on the coin is the tyrant, and let me tell you, the
enslaving tyrant is ruthless and he won’t let go that easily. He is
fighting for his life. It is not anyone external. It is you. It is the same as
when you are in prison and you are offered the key of your cell to
break free. But you are so used to prison conditions, feeling
confidant in the known, for better or worse, being afraid and not
trusting the unknown, that a part of you will reject the key, even find
the one that is offering it intimidating and therefore will want to make
him disappear by making up so called rational excuses of why it is
impossible or even dangerous to break free. But on the other hand,
another part of you will always shout “Let my people go!”.
Fire- These are the experiences that one goes through during life.
The invigorating fire of hell. If it doesn’t kill you, it strengthens you.
Life’s experiences are the very material for one’s growth. Let us say
for example, that you have to go somewhere for the first time, and
you ask for directions. Going by those directions you realize that you
were given wrong ones. Will you use the same wrong directions the
next time you have to go to that place, or will you then be wiser to use
another course? Your answer to this question will determine your
understanding of this symbol. Our reactions to life circumstances lead
to further consequences. If we see that a certain reaction leads to an
undesirable consequence, it is more than probable that we will want
to react differently the next time, for better results. This is exactly the
significance of Fire, and the meaning of Growth, for without Fire ( Life
experiences) we would have nothing to grow by.
“Feed me with challenges, how else am I to grow?”
