The software tycoon John McAfee is being deported to the United States from Guatemala.
He was escorted to the airport in Guatemala City and placed on board an American Airlines flight to Florida.
Mr McAfee told Bloomberg Television: “I am being expelled. I have no choice in the matter”.
Mr McAfee was detained a week ago after fleeing from Belize, where he is wanted for questioning in connection with the murder of a neighbour.
The 67-year-old has spent more than a month on the run with his girlfriend, blogging about his exploits.
A recent entry declared: “John to leave detention this morning.”
A spokesman for Guatemala’s immigration office, Fernando Lucero, said: “Complying with migration law, Mr John McAfee is to be deported to his country of origin”.
Mr McAfee has expressed his wish to return to the US and said he was “perfectly happy with the decision”.
In his interview with Bloomberg he said he was apologizing to the Guatemalan president for putting him in an awkward position during negotiations on a territorial dispute with Belize.
lawyer Guerra said Judge Secaida ruled that McAfee’s detention was illegal, ordered him to be released, It was not immediately clear if McAfee could get some kind of temporary or transit visa to allow him to leave Guatemala.
Telesforo Guerra said the judge notified him verbally of the ruling, but added that it may take a day for formal written notification to win john McAfee’s release.
Judge Judith Secaida did not immediately return phone calls seeking to confirm the ruling.
He has said that he wants to return to the United States with his 20-year-old Belizean girlfriend. Mr Guerra agreed that that would be his best option.
“For me, it’s best that McAfee go to the United States, that’s definitely the country where he will be safest,” Mr Guerra said.
“In Guatemala, he runs the risk that anything could happen to him.”
McAfee denies killing Faull and claims corrupt Belizean authorities are persecuting him.

John will be released from detention at 9:00 A.M., Guatemala Time, from the Immigration detention center in Guatemals City. He has not divulged his plans.

A Guatemalan judge has just ruled that Mr. McAfee was detained illegally. He will be released from detention at the central imigration centerin Guatemala City tomorrow morning. It is believed he will be allowed to return to the United States. Good News.
Based on new information. Mr. McAfee is terminating his relationship with Vice Magazine. Due to information just received, It is no longer clear to Mr. McAfee that the “accidental” release of his co-ordinates due to Vice Magazine’s editorial department’s failure to remove location data from their now notorious photo, was indeed an accident. I was sent a link to a video this morning put out by the “Jasmine Alert”, the Facebook page – dedicated to finding justice for Jasmine Lowe, a 13 year old girl killed in Belize on June 3rd of this year. This simple video has done a greater job of summing up the conditions of life in Belize than all of the 4 million words within this blog. I am shamed.
