John McAfee, the founder of anti-virus software maker McAfee, has been arrested in Guatemala, accused of entering the country illegally.
He crossed the border to seek political asylum, having been on the run in Belize where police are investigating the death of his neighbour Gregory Faull
Apparently taken with an iPhone 4S, which automatically embeds location data in photographs, the image indicated that the men were in the Parc Nacional Rio Dulce in Guatemala, according to Wired.com.
After Twitter users realised the apparent mistake, Mr McAfee wrote on his blog that he had manipulated the data in the image. At the same time, Vice posted a new version of the photograph with the data removed
John McAfee has been in hiding for three weeks since police in Belize said they wanted to question him as “a person of interest” about the murder of fellow American Gregory Faull, with whom McAfee had allegedly quarreled.
Mr McAfee smuggled himself and his girlfriend, Samantha, across the land border Belize shares with Guatemala saying he is the victim of a witch hunt in Belize.
Former Guatemalan attorney general Telesforo Guerra is representing Mr McAfee and confirmed he will seek asylum in Guatemala.

John McAfee was taken to hospital in Guatemala on Thursday, after complaining of chest pains while being detained by local authorities.
He initially refused to go to a hospital, saying he had relied on Chinese herbal medicine after suffering a heart attack in 1993.
“Last night I had a little bit of pain, but I am fine this morning,” McAfee told the Associated Press on Thursday. “I don’t like western medicine… if the people around me are kind and compassionate, that’s all that matters in life. The people of Guatemala are very kind people, so I have no complaints.”
A government doctor said McAfee’s heart rhythm and blood pressure were normal and that he had not suffered a heart attack during the night.

My lawyer just brought a judge to the jail and the judge issued a stay order until a higher judge can review the case. This effectively stops Immigration from returning me to the Belize border. So….. the urgency is eased a bit.
Date: I am in jail in Guatemala. Vastly superior to Belize jails. I asked for a computer and one magically appeared. The coffee is also excellent. Only time will tell what will happen. No one has a crystal ball. However, I would be truly shocked if I did not conduct the press conference tomorrow as I had originally planned. Stay tuned.
