While Constitutional liberties and civil rights took a wicked beating at the hands of the US government in the real world in 2012, online freedom fighters saw one cyberspace victory after another. Still relatively new, the internet and its worldwide users have fought off repeated US, European and international attempts to govern, regulate, censor and tax it. Even worse, governments like the United States repeatedly try to use the internet to spy on and control its own citizens, and they continue to fail.
