Who shall cry for them!?

Recently I have been perplexed by the acts of random violence around the world. One may believe it’s obvious which acts I am referring to, but in all honesty, I think I need to clarify what I really mean.
Last week a gunman brutally murdered 26 children and adults in Connecticut. This was an unspeakable act of cowardice, carried out by an emotionally sick individual who for whatever reason, thought it a great idea to kill innocence.
How easy it is for us to feel for ourselves after such a horrendous event , while ignoring the sick, starving, enslaved, children who suffer day to day as a result of our wars, the sadistic acts of paedophilia, curable illnesses, and a host of other nightmares we in the western world, could not begin to imagine. We weep for those of our own, while ignoring the cries of those who suffer as a result of our bombs, guns and covert wars, our sexual desires, our need for cheap labour, and the idea that we in the west, for whatever reason, feel as if the price of one of “their” lives is worth much less than one of our own.
Lest we forget that our own indirect actions and non-action which kill, maim and make suffer thousands of children around the world each and every day in the name of democracy. Who shall cry for those children?
