Astaxanthin Powder

Astaxanthin is an extremely powerful carotenoid, extracted from algae. It is Astaxanthin that gives salmon, flamingos, lobsters, and many other crustaceans their pink colour.

As a powerful carotenoid, Astaxanthin has special antioxidant properties, different to most other well studied antioxidants such as Vitamin E, CoQ10 and Vitamin C, which is why it is growing in popularity.
To understand why Astaxanthin is making waves in the nutritional supplement world, it is important to understand how Astaxanthin can improve our health. When we eat processed foods, breathe polluted air, or ingest toxic herbicides from our food, harmful free radicals can form in our body. Free radicals are unstable molecules that damage cells and are capable of killing them if not neutralised in time. Normally a few free radicals wouldn’t be a problem, as our body sometimes produces them as an immune response to fight bacteria or viruses, and our natural antioxidant supplies could clean up the mess. However most of us these days suffer from a free radical to the antioxidant imbalance that results in a chain reaction of destruction and inflammation.

Due to the abundance of processed foods and chemicals we eat, compared to the amount of quality fruit and vegetables in our diet, we struggle to get enough antioxidants to control free radicals. Without adequate levels of antioxidants, free radicals continue to cause cell damage, resulting in inflammation, cell death, pain and discomfort.

A classic example of inflammation and free radical damage is sunburn. When the sun’s harmful UV rays are on our skin, free radicals start to form, damaging cells and after an extending period, result in what we know as sunburn. With high levels of antioxidants, our skin can withstand the sun for longer periods of time, neutralising free radicals until immediate antioxidant stores have depleted.

Inflammation is one of the biggest drivers of disease in our body, associated with arthritis, heart disease, diabetes and even cancer. If one can naturally control inflammation and free radicals, one can avoid premature aging of cells, improve overall health, and lessen the chance of disease.

Our eyes offer another classic case of free radicals and antioxidants. Our eye contains a very dense proportion of antioxidants, due to the regular UV light and free radical production inside them. Our body knows that with adequate levels of antioxidants in the eye it can control free radicals and maintain good vision. However, as we age, antioxidant levels deplete and we experience macular degeneration.

To help support our body and eyes, an antioxidant supplement such as Astaxanthin can be extremely beneficial. Unlike other antioxidants, Astaxanthin can take control of mulch free radicals and offer the unstable molecules an electron without itself becoming a pro-oxidant. Over time, Astaxanthin users will experience lower levels of inflammation, resulting in decreased aches and pains, all without the nasty side effects of so many anti-inflammatory drugs.
