WARNING: “THE NEW AMERICAN AUSTERITY” HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED!
December 5, 2012 in Economics
A new meme has been born: It’s called “The New American Austerity.” CNBC’s Bob Pisani had a chat with Art Cashin on the floor of the NYSE yesterday. Cashin, who’s director of floor operations at the NYSE, opined about the US economy come 2013, making numerous references to ongoing “fiscal cliff negotiations.” Pisani summed up what’s to come by openly describing it as “The New American Austerity.”
With the election out of the way, it appears there’s a pivot to introduce the word “austerity” into America’s TV-programming “lexicon.” The approach is much like slapping lipstick on a pig to sell a lousy product. In this case, MSM are out to sell the notion of austerity as inevitable, “uncomfortable” yet “good” for the country. I suspect the American people may very well go along with this, abusing themselves while cheering banksters and corrupt politicos who destroyed the economy yet are exempt from all austerity measures imposed. And although “The New American Austerity” is slowly making itself known via MSM talking heads, America will be promoted as “exceptional” in the sense that American austerity will only be a “mild austerity,” unlike anything the TV has reported on mass protests, suicides, widespread starvation, rampant homelessness and staggering unemployment resulting from “harsh austerity” measures imposed on EU citizens.
Listen for the term “The New American Austerity” as it quietly laces its way into American MSM discourse on our deteriorating economy.
