John Paul Jones, letter to Gouverneur Morris, Sept 2, 1782…

“An honorable Peace is and always was my first wish! I can take no delight in the effusion of human Blood; but, if this War should continue, I wish to have the most active part in it.” (!)

John Paul Jones by Moreau le Jeune, 1780…

Quite the Life, especially for the time. He clearly had a love of adventure. Reading of his life and times is like a fiction novel. Friend of Ben Franklin, John Adams, and others, he also became, in his day, an individual not in favor of many of the political elite. Hey, join todays activists… On point, reading a few different histories, and finding his mention among the histories of others, I will say His, is a good read…

If what I have read is spot on, this happened to be a British Flag, which was easily changed from a red field, to the 13 stripes, by sewing the white stripes over that red field. During his exploits he was given the John Paul Jones Flag by The Dutch as a means to recognize him as other than a pirate…
